With an extensive background in musical education and performance, Danan Tsan provides a unique capability at SH&A of finding extraordinary professionals for clients seeking to fill leadership positions in the Arts. She also assists SH&A’s clients with searches in other areas, such as health sciences and enrollment management.
Danan has over 20 years of experience as a professor, voice teacher, and conductor in higher education, the military, and the performing arts. Most recently, she was the Interim Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Hamilton College. Prior to that, Danan taught Applied Voice, The Fundamentals of Music, and conducted two choirs at LeMoyne College in Syracuse. At both institutions, she was actively involved with recruiting, maintained a varied and diverse body of students in her classes and ensembles, and worked hard to highlight and perform music composed by women and people of color.
Stationed at Ft. Meade, Danan started her career as a servicemember of the United States Army. She was a member of the Soldiers’ Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band and toured extensively throughout the U.S. She was honored as Soldier Leader of the Cycle in Basic Training and was the leader of her small group within the unit, which performed children’s operas in elementary schools while on tour. Upon completion of her military duty, Danan performed around the world in pop and operatic productions, had an active presence in the NYC musical theater and pop scene as a performer, arranger, and composer, and continues to perform locally and regionally.
Danan has a B.M. in Vocal Performance, graduating cum laude from Southern Methodist University, and an M.M. and Performer’s Certificate in Voice from The Eastman School of Music.
Danan lives in the Syracuse, NY area with her multiracial family. Inclusion and diversity are personally important to Danan in all aspects of her life, including every search that she conducts for her clients at SH&A.
