Over the past five years in higher education executive search, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with schools of Social Work. These experiences have given me a deep respect for a field defined by compassion, justice, and a commitment to service. Social work educators bring a unique blend of academic insight and real-world experience, having often spent years in schools, hospitals, government systems, and communities before stepping into the classroom.

At SH&A, our role is to help mission-driven programs identify and attract leaders who embody the values of social work. We partner with institutions to find candidates who are not only qualified, but who also understand the importance of ethical practice, community engagement, and equity-driven leadership. Each search is tailored to reflect the program’s distinct culture and goals.

When social work programs seek new deans, department chairs, or senior faculty, it’s essential that the search process reflects the same care and inclusivity that the profession itself demands. A strong executive search firm brings national reach, structured processes, and deep listening to ensure the right fit, not just on paper, but in purpose.

Supporting social work education in this way is a privilege. Every placement is an investment in the future of a profession that is essential to building a more just and connected society. I am proud to play a role in helping these programs grow, lead, and thrive.
