Position Description

Alfred University, in partnership with the national search firm of Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director – Student Financial Services. In this newly elevated position, the Executive Director serves as the primary professional responsible for all student financial aid awards within the enrollment management environment at the University. The Executive Director provides leadership and oversight of the Office of Financial Aid and all areas of financial aid administration and compliance by working collaboratively to achieve departmental and institutional goals. In addition to the administration of all funds used in the support for all students, the Executive Director will be very involved with leveraging funds to attract and keep students at the University and will also be involved with strategies to set a University wide standard for discounting, net tuition revenue, and retention issues that affect students at the University. The Executive Director will plan, organize, and manage the operations and activities of federal, state, local, and privately funded financial aid while monitoring and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The Executive Director will evaluate operations leading to a continuous improvement, supervision, and evaluation of the financial aid staff. This position reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.


The preferred Executive Director candidate should have at least 8 years of progressively responsible leadership and project experience in higher education student financial aid at the Associate Director level or higher.  The candidate should also have demonstrated successful experience in managing a student financial aid function and in developing, evaluating, and improving financial aid awarding from a data-driven perspective. Substantial knowledge of and experience with Banner software, administering student work study programs, and managing endowed and gift fund budgets are highly preferred. Preference will be given to those candidates with a master’s degree and proven technical skills in data management, data processing concepts, and computerized systems related to student financial aid as well as proficiency with statistical software.
