Position Description
The College of Saint Mary (CSM), in partnership with the executive search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Open Rank Faculty Member. This full-time faculty position reports to the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program Director in the CSM PAS program. Faculty members work collaboratively with other program faculty, the program director, and the medical director to develop the curricular components of both the didactic and clinical instruction phases of the program. Faculty members also participate in advising students and monitoring their progress.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in curriculum planning and program evaluation.
- Assist with development of curriculum.
- Assume course coordination responsibilities for assigned courses to include preparation of syllabi, objectives, lectures, and student examinations.
- Classroom teaching as assigned utilizing applicable technology.
- Instruct and supervise students in assigned clinical practice labs.
- Work with the other core faculty members to complete professionalism evaluations for students each semester.
- Participate in the admissions process as a member of the admissions committee.
- Assist with advising, placement, and evaluation of Phase II (clinical) students as necessary and as assigned.
- Participate in research and scholarly activities as appropriate.
- Participate in continuing medical education, maintain clinical competency, and maintain national certification.
- Participate in national and state professional activities and participate in public service activities as appropriate.
- Represent the PAS program and the College on committees as assigned or elected.
- Perform other functions appropriate to a faculty member as assigned by the program director.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited PA program.
- Master’s degree in appropriate field, doctoral degree preferred.
- Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of Nebraska or eligible for licensure.
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience, three years is preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Willingness to uphold and support the mission of the college.
- Previous clinical experience in primary care.
- Broad knowledge of the profession.
- Understanding of the legal and regulatory issues of the profession.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities to include verbal and written communication skills.
About The Institution
About the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program:
The mission of the College of Saint Mary Physician Assistant Studies Program is to establish an educational environment fostering academic excellence and leadership and to prepare students to become competent Physician Assistants who possess the knowledge, compassion and clinical skills necessary to provide high quality medical care to all patient populations, including those that are underserved. The PAS degree is a 24-month program that begins in August with a maximum class size of 40 students. The class is selected with a combination of students admitted through CASPA and the CSM Physician Assistant Studies Accelerated Entry Program (PAS-AEP). The PAS Degree is full-time only and begins with didactic instruction in the basic and clinical sciences as applied in medicine. During the clinical phase, students are required to complete eight required rotations in Family Practice (2), Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Health, General Surgery, and Emergency Medicine. Students will also complete four elective rotations. Students are trained in a variety of clinical settings to assure that they are well prepared to practice medicine with excellence as a part of the PA-physician team.
