Program Director for the Physician Assistant Program

Position Description

Wagner College, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for a new Program Director for the Physician Assistant Program. This is a full-time, 12-month position, reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Program Director for the Physician Assistant (PA) Program has administrative responsibility for the organization and operation of the PA Program; oversight of facility, staff, and students; assessments of outcomes and achievement of goals; and implementation of strategies modifications. Wagner College seeks an experienced leader who can embody the community-oriented culture of the College, and lead the PA Program with an innovative approach, to continue to provide an excellent learning environment for its students.

Responsibilities of the Program Director for the PA Program:

1. Responsible for organization, administration, and leadership of the Wagner PA Program;
2. Oversees daily functions and operations, in compliance with program and institutional policies;
3. Supervises the Medical Director, Academic Coordinators, Clinical Coordinators, Graduate Coordinators, and Research & Simulation Learning Coordinators;
4. Supervises the Assistant to PA Program Director & Coordinator of Global Outreach, and the Coordinator of Clinical Placement & Simulation Lab;
5. Develops an Annual Report with review of goals, achievements, and outcomes for review by the Provost;
6. Oversees PA students enrolled in the Didactic, Clinical, and Graduate Phases of the PA Program;
7. Monitors and oversees principals and instructional (adjuncts);
8. Monitors, supervises and delegates, as required, to program personnel;
9. Recruits and hires, as required, additional principal and/or instructional faculty, with appropriate academic preparation and/or experience;
10. Oversees the curriculum (structure, sequence, content, syllabi, objectives outlines, materials) for the didactic, clinical and graduate years of the PA Program;
11. Ensures the program offers appropriate didactic courses and supervised clinical practice experiences that facilitate students' progression through the three phases of the PA Program;
12. Oversees student’s achievement of objectives, fulfillment of requirements, progression through the program and preparation for graduation;
13. Provides guidance for student recruitment, working collaboratively with the Dean of Admissions;
14. Coordinates student selection strategies that assure the selection of qualified applicants who meet the program requirements;
15. Ensures that applicant selected for admission have the necessary prerequisites, academic standards and motivation to achieve program goals;
16. Ensures maintenance of student records and documentation of academic progression, working collaboratively with the Registrar;
17. Provides fiscal management of program and student budgets;
18. Ensures continuous program assessment, identification of students and areas in need of improvement;
19. Recommends ongoing program modifications based on outcome measures;
20. Oversees the preparation of all documents, handbooks (Student Handbook, Faculty Handbook Preceptor Handbook); Manuals (Research Manuel, International Experience Manual, SIM Manual); assessment tools, and survey;
21. Attends national conferences (American Academy of Physician Assistants, Physician Assistant Education Association, and National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistant) keeping abreast of professional trends;
22. Represents the PA Program at Department Chair, Graduate Council, and Committee of the Whole meetings; and
23. Responsible for all related duties as assigned by the Provost.

Special Considerations:
The Program Director of the PA Program will maintain full-time employment for fall, spring, and summer sessions. The Program Director must be available weekends for Campus Visit Days and Interview Sessions, and available in the evenings for program events (Graduation, Research Forums).

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA Program, Masters Degree (MS, MPA, MPH), and PhD Candidacy
• NCCPA Certification
• New York State Licensed Physician Assistant
• A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
• A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience

Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $150,000. Wagner College considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
