The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, is pleased to announce a search for an Associate Professor/Professor and Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in the College of Health Professions in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on experience and qualifications.
• Administration of DPT Program, which includes the following:
- Coordinate the admissions process with the Admissions Committee.
- Coordinate class scheduling.
- Coordinate clinical education with Director of Clinical Education.
- Develop and maintain communication system for student performance and professional behaviors.
- Develop and maintain programmatic outcomes tracking the system, evaluate the program each semester, and
provide recommendations to the Chair for improvement.
- Maintain requirements for CAPTE accreditation.
• University and professional service.
- A physical therapist (DPT/PT) who is licensed or regulated in any United States jurisdiction as a Physical Therapist and is eligible for licensure in the state of Tennessee;
- An earned academic doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent in a closely related field);
- Holds or is eligible to hold the rank of associate professor or professor;
- A minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a physical therapist education program;
- Experience in CAPTE accreditation;
- Experience in curricular development and assessment;
- Experience in management of program resources (fiscal, faculty and staff);
- Excellent leadership skills;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- A strong record of teaching and evidence of scholarship.
- History of scholarship including presentations and peer-reviewed publications;
- Previous experience as a DPT program director;
- Recent and relevant clinical experience;
- Evidence of leadership in a professional organization at a state or national level.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience and content expertise in one of the following the areas: neurologic physical therapy (adult or pediatrics), cardiopulmonary physical therapy, acute care/medically complex patients, biomechanics/kinesiology, electrotherapeutic or thermal modalities or other physical therapy-related fields.

The mission of the Department of Physical Therapy is to serve the public with a focus on the citizens of Tennessee and the region by preparing qualified practitioners and engaging in clinical care, service, and research. UTHSC DPT prepares outstanding clinicians, as seen in excellent employment and National Physical Therapy Examination passing rates. Faculty are experts in their field, and all contribute to the mission of the Department. The Department houses the Movement Science Laboratory and has affiliated faculty in the UTHSC Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Preventive Medicine. Faculty-led research laboratories include the Muscle Biology and Sarcopenia Laboratory and Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory. Clinical opportunities are also available in the Department’s clinical practice or through community organizations.

The College of Health Professions trains outstanding health professionals to address the health care needs of the people of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. Our graduates will supply a workforce that provides leadership in healthcare, contribute to the knowledge bases of the respective health disciplines and promote lifelong learning through continuing education and the pursuit of knowledge through research to better address the health needs of our citizens. The school is composed of the departments of Audiology and Speech Pathology, Diagnostic and Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. A Rehabilitation Sciences Division is housed in the College that serves all faculty interested in this area of research.
