Jim Wager has been involved in higher education
student systems development and administration for nearly three
decades. During his career at Penn State, Jim has held several
positions in both academic and administrative offices of the
University before accepting the position of University Registrar
ten years ago. In 1999, his area of responsibility was expanded
to include University enrollment planning and student information
systems planning. He is a member of the Universitys Web
Strategies Implementation Team and serves on the W.K. Kellogg
Leadership for Institutional Change in Higher Education initiatives.
In addition to his administrative appointment, Jim spends time
in the classroom teaching management courses and is also a member
of the Universitys Leadership Academy and Management Institute.
Jims professional service includes authoring chapters
in AACRAOs Breakthrough Systems (1996) and NACADAs
Transforming Student Services Through the Use of Web Technology
(2001), presenting professional papers at international, national,
and regional conferences, and participation on several AACRAO
committees. Jim is the current chairman of the AAU Registrars
and is a faculty member of the Registrars Summer Institute
at Aspen, CO.
Jim has been an advocate for improving the delivery of student
services using technology. His technical background is in the
design and implementation of applied student systems including
secure web systems (admissions application, student registration,
enrollment verification, transcript ordering, grade reporting,
etc.), enterprise student information systems, client-server
application, and network/distribution systems.
